Até quando?

A Palestina saiu de nossa preguiçosa mídia -- afinal, não há guerras nem celebridades por lá --, mas as arbitrariedades israelenses continuam a ocorrer. Recebi mensagem de minha amiga palestina Areej Ja'afari, moradora de Belém. Sua família originalmente vivia em Dayr Rafat, distrito de Jerusalém, ocupado por Israel quando da criação do Estado judeu. Pois bem: Areej, uma jovem líder da comunidade do Campo de Refugiados Deheish, denuncia que o governo israelense fechou o Nidal Center for Community Development, uma instituição não-governamental palestina voltada para crianças, jovens e mulheres, na quarta-feira 15 de julho. Até quando o povo palestino continuará sendo privado de seus direitos fundamentais?

" The Coalition for Jerusalem, the Civic Coalition for Defending the Palestinians' Rights in Jerusalem and the Palestinian NGO Net work (PNGO), condemn the Israeli Occupation Authorities’ closure of the Nidal center for Community Development yesterday, Wednesday 15th July 2009.
Nidal Center, a youth development non-governmental institution located in the Old City in Jerusalem. The Nidal Center provides educational and cultural services and opportunities to youth in the community by offering training and recreational activities such as: computer training, organizing summer camps, and hosting lectures. This is done in order that the youth may develop skills for various sectors in society
Since August 2001, 28 similar organizations serving the Palestinian community have been closed, including The Orient House closed in 2001.
Civil society organizations denounce Israel’s measures that violate the Palestinians’ legitimate right to community life within the Old City, and occupied Jerusalem generally.
We call upon the international community to put an end to the Israeli violations and demand the immediate re- opening of Nidal Center and all other Palestinian Organizations that have been closed by Israel.
